Last Sunday, the day before yesterday I went to the preview of the Bonhams Oriental carpet auction on Sunset Blvd. here in Los Angeles. There were more than 250 pieces of Oriental carpets, kilims, and tapestries on display. Today was the auction from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. It was fun and on some items, the competition was tough. There were carpet dealers, collectors, designers, and I guess some private customers in the room. Some had participated online and by phone.
I had selected few items to bid on but for some reasons the prices got out of hand or at least out of my budget. I only bought a nice Sarouk Farahan (Feraghan) rug which I love. Sarouk Farahan rugs were made pre-1900 in north west Iran as they are one generation before the existence of American Sarouk rugs which were made for the American market after the turn of the last century.
After the auction was over, I picked up the rug I had won and paid for it by credit card. The staff and employees were very friendly and professional. Everything was well organized and well done. I enjoyed the auction very much.

Bonhams Oriental carpet auction is really having great collections. I like the one "American Sarouk rugs".
ReplyDeleteThe most communal method of conniving a rug's knot weigh is to influence the knots per row progress (KPSI). Using a measuring tape or somebody, the knots along one inch widthwise are multiplied by the knots counted along one progress axial. The count constitutes the knots per honest inch.
I like all of them because Persian carpets are a living prove of the ancient Persian culture, one of the greatest that ever existed. I have a Persian area rug and I can see every day it's effect....It gives a very interesting aspect to any room or wall, because such carpets can be put on walls too.
