Carpet Rug Down Sizing, A Rush Job at Rug Ideas in Los Angeles

A designer called in for a rush job of rug downsizing to be done in 24 hours. We said yes, we can do it in a day. It was a 9' x 12' outdoor carpet. We picked it up from the Crate & Barrel's warehouse in the city of Industry, in Los Angeles, 35 miles from our store.
We measured it and cut it to fit the desired size which was 7' 6" x 12'.
It is our company's  rule to have at least two of our personnel at the measuring and cutting to prevent mistakes.

We did the securing of the cut side by hand y one of our repair technicians and finished it on time.

This carpet was ready in less than 24 hours. We wrapped it and delivered it.
We added one more happy customer to our list.

Best Rug Cleaners, Best Rug Cleaning in Los Angeles

When customers call in for rug cleaning, the first question they ask is how much we charge for cleaning. If the quality and how our cleaning process works is not asked and inquired, price by itself is meaningless. It is like asking a car dealer about his car prices without asking for the make, model, and the year in which the car was made.

Like in many other goods and and services fields, it is the quality which determines the cost or price. Therefore, before we mention our rate and prices, we explain that we are not wall to wall carpet cleaners. We do not do on-site rug cleaning. We mention that we do not do dry, steam, or surface cleaning. And then we explain our 10-step wet and deep washing process. After that, we quote out prices.

Here, I am posting before and after cleaning of a round sisal rug. This carpet was flooded by pipe brokage of a kitchen in a client's house.

Karastan Area Rugs Cleaning and Repair in Los Angeles

We picked up a dirty and damaged Karastan carpet for cleaning. This client did not want to spend money on the repair of her rug. So we offered to patch the rug after it was deep cleaned and wet washed.

She liked the idea of patching and we found a piece in our inventory which somehow could match the construction and color combination of  the rug.

We then assigned one of our master repair personnel on site to do the repair and work on the patch. The piece was installed and sewed to the rug to become a permanent part of it. For extra protection, we even glued canvas straps on the back of the carpet.

Although this patch may not look ideal, it helped the client who was on a very tight budget save her rug. She was very happy that we could save her rug and make it look better on her floor. She left our store with a big smile on her face.

Persian Rug Cleaning. Heriz Rug Cleaning

We picked up a very old Persian Heriz rug from a very high end restaurant in Culver City, here in Los Angeles for cleaning. We had cleaned this rug two years ago but since it is placed on the floor right at the entrance, it was very dirty when we picked it up.
Not only this Heriz carpet was dirty, it was full of dust and dry soil. We never do dry, steam, or surface cleaning of rugs. That is what wall-wall carpet cleaners do. Like always, we did wet washing and deep cleaning of this century old Heriz rug and the result was a clean rug coming back to life again.
Our customer was very happy with our cleaning job. She called in and said she would contact us soon to schedule the pick up her home rugs for cleaning.

Persian Heriz Rug, Carpets

Persian Heriz carpet 9' 7" x 13' 9", $3,900 with shipping free in the U.S. continent. If we sell it until Saturday 05/31/2014, the Memorial Day week, 10% of the sales ($390) will be donated to the "Paralyzed Veterans of America", a 501 (c) non-profit which helps veterans.

Most Heriz rugs are collectible pieces of art as they get better with age. Heriz is a very small town close to Tabriz in north west Iran. Heriz carpets have geometric designs and usually come with a very big and beautiful central medallion. They do not have cleaning issues such as color bleeding, shrinkage, discoloration, or fading. With good care and maintenance, Heriz rugs can last over a century.

Pet Stain Removal From A Haji Jalili Antique Tabriz Rug

Ramon is a good repeat client of our company. He called us few weeks ago and said one of his clients for whom we have provided services many times needed help. His pet had an accident on one of his rugs. This was an antique Haji Jalili Tabriz rug from 1880's. They knew that they should not treat the stain with chemicals to make it permanent or at least difficult to remove.

We picked up the rug in an hour and Kash started the work right away before the dog stuff completely sits in the fiber.
He removed the stain, but the contamination was there inside the rug and in the fiber. We washed and sanitized the carpet and let it dry naturally. After a few days when we were done with our deep cleaning, the rug looked great and smelled fresh. We delivered the rug to Ramon's client in Beverly Hills. He was very happy with the service and the result of our cleaning.
Accidents happen. Do not panic. If you have pet accident on your rug, you should act fast and blot it up. Do not use super market solutions/spays. Stain removal is not do-it-yourself. It is more complicated than that. Leave it to a professional. If you're in Los Angeles, call us at 310-770-9085 to consult.

Down-sized this Mahal rug and then made a runner out of leftover borders.

This Persian Mahal rug was severely damaged by moth. We picked it up from the city of Santa Monica from a client's house. We washed it first and then moth-guarded it. We Down-sized this rug from 9' x 12' to 6' x 9' and removed the damaged borders. We also rewove some damaged areas in the background and in the middle of the rug.  We made a runner out of leftover borders.

Our client was very happy with the idea and the result. So if you have a rug which is damaged by moth, leak/water, pet or something else, give us a call for a free consultation. There maybe several options available to save the rug.

Navajo American Indian Rug Blanket Cleaning and Repair Los Angeles

Jason is a long time customer of ours. He owns several Navajo rugs. He brought in one of them few months ago for professional cleaning and repair. It had several damages and holes in it. We hand washed this piece and then assigned one of our master weavers to repair it. Jason was very happy with the repair. So, he brought us another one for cleaning and repair.
This one had damages at the ends and there were few holes in the middle of it. We did dusting, and hand washing first and then repaired it. We used hand spun wool with vegetable dye to do the repair and the result was very good.
Jason was very happy this time again when he picked up his Navajo rug. He loves these pure objects of art. We have several customers who collect Navajo rugs and blankets and bring them for cleaning regularly. Professional cleaning of rugs, extend their life.

Hookah Charcoal Marks On A Shag Carpet

A young man who seemed very nervous walked in with a 5' x 8' shag rug and asked "do you clean rugs?".I said yes, we do. Then we opened his rug which was white when it was new. It was dirty with a couple of somehow big and noticeable stains and burn-marks. I asked what those stains were, and he said charcoal. Apparently, parents were out and he had friends over and you can guess the rest of the story.
I said we do not promise to remove the stains and the marks completely, but we will do our best to clean this shag rug and bring it back to life again. We inspected the carpet first and took several before pictures. Then we dusted the rug to remove the dust and dry soil. Washing a rug without proper dusting will give it a bath in its own mud.

We washed the rug multiple times and rinsed it thoroughly to make sure we leave nothing behind and inside the high pile. We dried it and then did some spot stain removal and it looked very clean and nice again. When this client came in to pick it up in a week, we opened the rug in front of him and told him since we were not able to clean the rug and remove the charcoal stains/marks, we're giving you a brand new rug. He seemed a little confused for a few seconds and did not know what to say. Our employees were also wondering what I was doing. I laughed and told the client that I was kidding him and then he felt relieved. He picked up the rug and happily left our store.

Every Rug Is Different

We receive many rugs for cleaning and repair. Every rug is different in construction, design, color, etc. and that is the beauty of our job. When it comes to cleaning, we have to treat each rug differently because of these differences; but our process of cleaning starts with inspection, followed with taking pictures and identifying/securing damages. In some cases, we repair the rug first, and then do the repair. In some other cases, we do the cleaning first and take care of the repair next. As the title of this post says, each rug is different.

We then do the wash with WoolSafe certified shampoo and sanitize and deodorize the rugs. We rinse them multiple times to make sure there is no residue left in the rug and after we do water extraction, we flat dry them like the traditional way. After we make sure the rug is completely dry, we do final inspection and take pictures. We will call the customer to pick up the rug or schedule the delivery if the rug was picked up by us. Our normal process of cleaning roughly takes 5-7 days.

Association of Rug Care Specialists, ARCS Portland Meeting April 30, to May, 2, 2014

Association of Rug Care Specialists, ARCS had a very successful 3-day meeting in Portland, Oregon from Wednesday April 30th, to Friday May, 2nd, 2014. There were variety of visits and rug talks and rug professionals gathered from all over the country (and Canada) for this professional, once in a year event.

We all first met in the lobby of the Benson Hotel in the morning of Wednesday April 30th and checked in to the event and received our name tags from Armen Dohanian of Oriental Rug Cleaners of Dallas, TX. Armen was the out-going ARCS president. A bus then took us to one of the finest rug cleaning facilities on the west side of the country, the Renaissance Rug Cleaning, where Mr. and Mrs. Hyde were waiting to greet us.

Randy Hyde demonstrated how he cleans rugs and answered the technical questions. He is one of the best in the industry with a good knowledge of rug ID which is a big deal in rug cleaning.

Atiyeh Bros. rug cleaning facility was our second stop. Brian Marantette and his staff showed how they professionally clean rugs.

At Atiyeh Bros. cleaning plant, they also showed us how they took care of pet urine and rug blocking.

On Thursday morning, we visited Atiyeh Bros. retail showroom which was big, neat, and well organized. Besides hand knotted Oriental rugs, they sell Karastan machine made and wall to wall carpets. There, Leslie Atiyeh delivered a good talk on the state of rug making in Iran, India, and China. In her power point, she showed many pictures of these productions.

In the afternoon, we visited the Pittock Mansion, one of the oldest homes in Portland and I spotted a very old Atiyeh inscribed Yazd carpet produced in south east Iran after the World War I.

After this, four visits to four rug galleries were planned and we visited all these four stores on foot as they were in the Portland down town area. They were Christianne Millinger's gallery, where we had lunch, Lapci, Tufenkian, and Santos. A game of treasure hunting was also planned for the group and we were given one picture of a rug to be found in each rug store. The winner, Meg Walker received a small Indian Gabbeh from Leslie and Tom Atiyeh's Happy Camel's collection.

Our third and final day of the event started in the Crystal Ballroom of the Benson Hotel with breakfast and ARCS annual meeting. Attendees acknowledged the great work of outgoing board members including the president, Armen Dohanian. The new president Ms. Tevi Cockburn-Cory was introduced by Bill Fould, the head of election committee. Tevi has been with Robert Mann's rug cleaning in Denver, Colorado for 17 years and works there as the Chief Executive Officer.

Lunch was served at noon and we then had several speakers. Sarah Friend talked about employees benefits. Gary Benton had two talks on how men and women are different and managing conflict. Peter Pap, a prominent rug collector and frequent speaker of many high level rug events delivered a very fine lecture on antique and collectible rural, village and tribal rugs. This was one of my favorite talks and I enjoyed it a lot. Dan Buganto was the last speaker who delivered a talk on online marketing 101 and almost covered all important aspects of online/Internet marketing. I liked his presentation. This was followed by a panel discussion. The panel members were Buz Dohanian, Randy Hyde, Bob Carr, and Robert Mann who talked about pricing, competition, technical stuff, and covered many more topics. Bryan OHaleck was the moderator. Many members asked questions which were addressed by the panel members. This part was also one of my favorite parts of this great 3-day professional rug event. The meeting finished at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 2nd 2014.

This event was well worth attending. It was fun, educational and informative. I also had the pleasure of seeing many good friends and meeting new ones from around the country.
