It is Saturday 9:30 am and I am at work. We have a couple of rugs to care for cleaning and repair. That is why I am at work at this early Saturday morning. Our working hours on Saturdays is from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.

Some of our customers who live in the neighboring cities come to Los Angeles on Saturday and stop by to purchase a rug or bring in their rugs for repair/cleaning. That is why we open on Saturdays.

A couple of days ago, we received one beautiful Afshar rug for appraisal by a client who wanted to get an official appraisal certificate for insurance purposes. This unique and antique Afshar rug was at least 100 years old. Each of the two big borders on the sides had different asymmetrical designs with madder red and indigo dark blue colors. The foundation was wool. The knots were asymmetrical and the two wefts were madder red. It had a very nice "barber pole" overcasting selvages and a two-inch flat-weave (kilim) at each end.

Rug Appraisers Rug Appraisal

The day before yesterday I went to Venice Beach here in Los Angeles for an in house appraisal of four hand knotted Persian rugs. I got there more than half an hour early. I did not want to bother the customer early in the morning around 8:30. I went to a restaurant for breakfast and had an omelette and coffee. This place was across from the ocean so I took a five minutes walk before I visit the customer for her rug appraisal for insurance purposes. There were so many surf riders in the water at that time. Beautiful scene. I wish I had no work to do and no bills to pay so I could spend few hour there! It is only 30 minutes drive from our rug gallery.
