Rug Books in Los Angeles Public Library

I was at work today, Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. I wanted to check out a rug book from our nearby Los Angeles Public Library Robertson Branch. I contacted them. They did not have it, but the down town main branch had that book. I went to Los Angeles Public Library in Los Angeles down town after work. I had never been inside the down town branch of Los Angeles Public Library. It is a beautiful old building. The book I was looking for was a rug book in the history department four floor levels down from the ground floor. They were open till 5:30 pm and I had to rush there before they close. This was a reference book and I could not check it out, but I had 45 minutes to sit down at a desk to take a look at it.

I returned home, but on my way back I filled up the tank of my car. I had to pay over $101.00. What a pain!

Our Rug Library

I always buy rug books and give some of them to our clients who appreciate rugs, kilims, and textiles. Our old library was small so I bought this new library which is bigger and can place in more books. Sometimes I buy few copies from one single title. It does not matter if the book is interesting. I do not intend to keep all of them. My clients who love rugs and look at them as art, history and culture, appreciate a rug/textile book as a free of charge book.

I also read some of these books and enjoy them a lot. If I find  good articles in some rug journals and magazines, I make copies and keep them in files in binders for my future references. There is so much to learn and love about rugs. Each rug, specially if it is a village, tribal, or rural rug has many unique stories to tell and share.
