Accidents Happen. Be Prepared. Rug, Carpet Wine Stain Removal

A client contacted us and said she spilled a full glass of red wine on her hand knotted Pakistani rug. I told her not to panic and asked her not to use any chemical to treat the stain, otherwise it would be more difficult to remove it.

We acted fast and picked up the rug from her house right away. Kash, the only Certified Master Rug Cleaner worked on the rug stage by stage.

Some clients think stain removal is a do-it-yourself job and take their chances to take care of the stains when it happens. Each stain is different in nature. Some stains and their contents are man-made such as kool aid, and Coca Cola/Pepsi. Other stains like blood, and pet urine are organic. There is a third category and that is petrochemicals like glue, grease, etc. Each of these categories need a different type of solution to be removed. There are others players here that we have to take into consideration when it comes to stain removal. Construction of the rug (cotton, wool, silk, jute, etc.), and the type of dye used in the rug are also important. Dosage and how strong the solution is could make a big difference in stain removal. If a client bleaches the rug by using unknown or strong chemicals, then it would be way more difficult to deal with the stain.

Kash could bring the rug back to its original look and sage in a day. We then washed the rug professionally as we have to leave no residue in the rug when we do stain removal. Our customer was super happy with the quality of our work and I believe she would be our client for life.

Repair of a Late 19th Century Kashan Rug, Kashan carpet

A client of ours brought in a late 19th century hand knotted antique Persian Kashan rug for cleaning and repair. One part of this rug was severely damaged and needed a complete re-weave.

First we hand washed the rug and the process of cleaning started with light dusting to make sure all the dust and dry soil was out of the rug. Then we shampooed the rug with WoolSafe rug shampoo followed with multiple rounds of rinsing. We dried the rug naturally and flat in the sun.We assigned one of our master weavers to take care of the repair which took us roughly three weeks.

We had to make the foundation first and then the process of re-weaving started. Our weaver matched the color, design, and the construction.

If you have an antique, semi-old or even a new damaged rug, give us a call so we can discuss the options and the charges of the repair. We're open six days a week. Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturdays from 12:00 to 5:00 pm

Best Rug Cleaning, Best Rug Cleaners in Los Angeles

A customer brought in a rug and said she wanted to wash the rug herself but was afraid of bleeding and color run; so she did not do it in her back yard.

I asked if she thought rug cleaning was do-it-yourself, and she said yes and no, but she mentioned she wanted to save money. I told her actually if you had washed the rug yourself, you would have lost money by damaging the rug.
Rug cleaning is a specialty job. It requires expertise, experience and facility. Rugs should be thoroughly dusted first to make sure all the dust and dry soil is out. Otherwise dust and water becomes mud. Then special rug shampoo and not tide or other detergents should be used. Then jet guns, rotary machines, or other devices should be employed followed by a good rinsing to make sure all the shampoo and enzyme is flushed out and removed. There should be no residue left in the rug. Sometimes detailing of the fringes is necessary and should be done. Drying the rug properly is also very important otherwise rug would smell.
She was convinced that rug cleaning was not something she could do at home and said: "I am glad that my rug is in good hands now".

A New Review On Yelp for Rug Ideas

Great service. Painless process. Prices are very reasonable. I have two beautiful Persian wool Tabriz-style rugs which were in a storage space for about a year.  They were not packed properly and over the course of a year they became infested with moths.  Prior to that they had been used by my dog as her personal wee wee pad. What are you gonna do?  I had used this company once before and remembered what a good job they did. This time though, they had their work cut out for them with both moths, and pee.  Young Kash came the same day I called, and all the way downtown. He really took his time pointing out the condition my rugs were in before he took them to be cleaned. He was insistent we take both of the rugs out of my loft and into the sunlight so he could have a proper look. It was literally crawling with... well it was pretty gross.  Kash explained more than I ever wanted to know about moths and their larvae.  He showed me the damage they had caused which could have been way worse had I not acted on this when I did. Eventually, I would like to do some reweaving which this company also does, but I'll have to wait until I can afford to do that at a later date. In the meantime, he took them in and cleaned them 'old school' style.  He also spoke admirably about his father, Dr. Kay, the president of the company, and his passion for observing the old traditions, and methods of cleaning, weaving, and caring for these beautiful works of art. He and his teammate brought my carpets back today and laid them back down for me. They made everything easy and the whole process from start to finish really didn't take up too much of my time. There is even a sticker on the bottom of the carpets with their info which makes it convenient for me the next time. It's important to me to protect the investment I made in these carpets and I hope Mr. Kay feels as confident as I do that the next generation is living up to his high standards. Nice job guys!!

Shag Rug, Shag Carpet Cleaning at Rug Ideas

Shag rugs are beautiful and give our feet a lot of cushioning and comfort. Because of their high pile, they need a little more care and attention. We should not let them get very dirty and stained, otherwise cleaning them would become very difficult.

Here, I am posting before and after cleaning pictures of a very dirty shag rug we recently received from a customer. This rug was used in a very high traffic area. To clean this high pile carpet, we started from dusting and removed so much dust and dry soil from it. Then we gave it a full bath and wet wash and after we extracted the water, we dried it flat. The outcome was very good and our client was very happy. She had not seen the rug this clean in years. She left our store with a big smile on her face.

Rug Stain Removal at Rug Ideas in Los Angeles

Stain removal from rugs is a little more difficult  than what it looks in the beginning. It is not a do-it-yourself job at all. We have had many clients with stained rugs who went online or to a supermarket to buy chemicals to remove pet urine or red wine from their rugs. Stains maybe petroleum based such as adhesives, grease, ink, etc. They maybe organic based such as coffee, tea, vomit, blood, mold, urine, etc. Or stains can be synthetic based like cough syrup, Kool-Aid, fruit punch, etc.

Each of these three mentioned categories, need special type of treatment for the stain to be removed. Other players also come in to the game such as the construction of the rug. For example if a rug has silk foundation or silk pile, some precautionary steps should be taken, otherwise, rug maybe severely damaged in the process of stain removal. In some cases, using unknown chemicals and applying them to the stains, will make it more difficult for a professional to remove the stains. Some of these unknown supermarket stuffs would bleach the rugs.
Client washed this Tabriz carpet at home and it bled.
This is the pictures of the same Tabriz carpet after stain removal.
A Chinese carpet with dog urine in it.

Accidents happen. Do not panic. When you spill something on your rug, blot it up as much as you can and do not use any kind of chemicals. Contact a professional who knows rugs and has worked with rug stain removal. Wall-wall carpet cleaners cannot help. You can also call us and discuss it or send us a couple of pictures of the stained area. We will give you some tips and we maybe able to provide you an estimate for stain removal over the phone after we see the pictures.

Tow Most Rug Damages Are Pet Urine, and Moth

We receive many damaged rugs for cleaning and repair everyday. Most damages come from pets and then moths. Some pets have health issues, and some are territorial. They mark a rug and go back to the same spot and indirectly tell their owners, hey, this is my territory. They should be trained or at least kept away from the rugs.

When  pet accident happens, do not panic. Act fast and try to get the stuff out of the rug as much as you can and then call a professional rug and not a carpet cleaner for help. Do not use any kind of super market sprays or chemicals as there is no magic solution out there that acts like one size fits all to remove the stains and odor of all kinds of pets and for all types of rugs. It is more complicated than that. By using super market stuff, you may actually make the stain permanent or at least make it more difficult for a professional to remove. You may also bleach the rug if you do not know what you're using.
In case of moth, cleaning and regular vacuuming is very important. If you want to store the rug, it should be professionally cleaned and wrapped. You should not put a dirty rug in a plastic bag in leave in the basement or storage. This provides the ground and environment for the moths to infest the rug. Wool is protein and that is food for moth.

We just received this rug from San Francisco by UPS sent to us by a client who left it in storage for a few years. Saving this rug would be difficult and very costly. Preventative measure would be easier to take and way less expensive. Professional cleaning, and proper wrapping with a little care and maintenance was the solution to prevent this kind of damages.

Professional Rug Cleaning, Rug Repair in Los Angeles. Rug Down Sizing

A long time customer brought in a Turkish rug for cleaning and repair. She also said she was moving to a smaller place and wanted to down-size her rug from 9' x 12' to 6' x 9'. She wanted the rug to have a balanced and symmetric design after down-sizing. It was a beautiful rug with a nice geometric medallion in the center. The construction was wool on wool so it felt very soft and pliable.
We assigned one of our master repair personnel to do the measurement and cutting first The bindings on all four sides were done by high quality imported New Zealand wool. She did not like fringes and said they would get dirty and damaged by foot traffic and vacuuming.
She loved the down sizing when she came in to pick up the rug. We gave her a rug pad to keep the rug in its new place on her newly installed hardwood floor. Our  top of the line rug pads extend the life of rugs and provide a nice cushioning.

If you're moving to a smaller place or for any reason would like to down size a rug, bring it in or give us a call to discuss it. Consultation with us is always free. We're open 6 days a week; Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 12:00 to 5:00 pm.

Persian Kashan Rug, Iranian Kashan Carpet repair in Los Angeles

A client brought in an old Persian Kashan rug they had in the family. The rug was bought by his father decades ago in Iran. It was dirty and dusty, and needed professional deep cleaning. Part of the fringes at one end was also damaged.

We hand washed the rug by sending it through our 10-step process. Our professional deep and hand washing process which is different from others works in the following way:

-First we inspect incoming rugs to determine the best way to clean/restore them, and then we take digital photos (before & after). Rugs are dusted to loosen/remove the dirt, and dust.
-It then goes for shampooing, using special enzymes that are non-toxic.
-A thorough water bath rinsing follows and the final step is natural drying.

Our technique is superior to others as we do not do dry, steam, or surface cleaning like wall-wall carpet cleaners.

After the cleaning, one of our master repair personnel on site did the re-fringing and repair of the damaged end. He had to find the right kind of cotton thread as regards with the color, thickness, and the construction to match with the other parts of the fringe at the same end.

The result of the repair came out very good and we cannot wait to show the rug to our client. If you have a damaged rug, bring it in or send us a couple of pictures for free consultation and a quote. You can also call in to discuss the options. In many cases, there maybe more than one option for the repair.
