Afshar Rug - Expert Repair

We had an interesting story come in during one of our customer visits recently. A repeat customer of ours brought in his beautiful Afshar rug, that we had cleaned and repaired a year earlier, that now had a tear near one of the corners. It turns out his dog managed to get a small ball under the rug and while trying to get it out, chewed/tore a small piece of the rug. Take a look below:
This Afshar is worth quit a bit of money so the owner was understandably concerned. He also knew that we do outstanding repairs so he opted for one of our master weavers to do the reweave. All the the work was done by hand and the results came out fabulous! Take a look below:
This Afhsar rug has been expertly restored and you cannot tell that this rug had ever been ripped/torn by a dog. Our customer was thrilled with the outcome of our repair work and left our store a very happy man. If you have a rug that has come across some damage due to pets, furniture, water damage, etc. bring it in to Rug Ideas where we can help step you through all your options to get it back into great shape!

Rug Downsizing

At Rug Ideas we sometimes get rugs that come in that have an area with extreme damage. Often times it is due to water damage, other times it is a pet that tore apart a piece of the rug, and we have even seen normal wear and tear damage a rug to the point of no return. These rugs are not lost! We can do custom jobs of downsizing the rug so that the damaged area is taken out and then the rug is re-secured to make in essence a new rug. Take a look at some before pics of a rug that we recently did downsizing to:
The damaged piece is easily visible in the above pics and that was the area that we surgically removed from the rest of the rug. After the offending piece was removed, one of our master weavers did the binding to get the rug's structure back to normal. All the work was done by hand and the results came out great. Take a look below:
One could never tell that this rug had been downsized and it looks absolutely fantastic. If you have a rug that has a damaged piece that is beyond restoration, bring it in to Rug Ideas so we can step you through the process of saving your rug through downsizing. We can save your rug!

The Old World Look

With colors and designs from medieval Europe through the arts and craft movement the old world look is a strong decorating trend today. It is only natural that a large segment of the Oriental Rug industry would produce hand woven rugs to fill the floor covering demand for those interiors.
Bold patterns are skillfully created in deep rich mellow colors which are many times enhanced by the use of vegetable dyes or tea and herbal washes. This look is perfect for contemporary interpretations of early European interiors, whether Tudor, Victorian, Bidermeier or William Morris - arts and craft, art nouveau, or art decor. If this is your taste there is a rug for your room!

Afghanistan - History & Rugs

Afghanistan is an arid and desolate land whose people have lived in turmoil for centuries, was ruled by the British from the seventeenth century through the mid twentieth century. The British rule was replaced by King Mohammed Zaher who rules until the Russian invasion forced his exile. Meeting with great resistance the Russians left, leaving Afghanistan with further turmoil caused by the Taliban. The Afghan people come from a tribal background where they learned to be prolific rug weavers; the art of weaving being passed down from mother to daughter.
Rugs from Afghanistan tend to be quite stylized with a limited number of colors. The Afghan guls and the Ersari are similar to the "Bokhara" in pattern and color and are the basis for most Afghanistan rugs. Another popular type is the Belouch, which are primarily made by nomadic tribesmen. The Belouch weavers are particularly fond of prayer rugs in dark colors and primarily utilize geometric patterns.
Many rugs are made by Afghan refugees living in Pakistan, on the "New Frontier" along the Afghanistan border around Pesharar. Some of these rugs contain traditionally Afghan designs. However the Caucasian and Persian designs woven there are very popular with today's decorating trends.
