We Hide Them If You Don't Like Them. We Mean Fringes!

Fringes at the end of rugs are love and hate matters. Some of our customers love to have fringes (short or ling) at both ends of their rugs. They think fringes make the rug more authentic, and beautiful. Some do not like fringes (tassels) and they want fringes removed or unseen. They think fringes, specially long ones are troublesome.

If you do not fringes on your rugs and think they will look ugly if they are damaged, or you think they get sucked in and stuck in vacuum cleaners, we have a solution for you. We do not cut them, but rather hide them. In case you change your idea and taste, we can undo the process and bring the fringes back.

Here I am posting two sets of pictures. As you can see, we did not cut fringes, but did hide them and sewed them back. Both of our clients were very happy with the results.

Overcasting Fringes on Rugs at Rug Ideas, Los Angeles

When the ends of a rug is damaged, we usually remove the damaged areas, unravel/open less than an inch and secure the ends to make sure knots do not come off and damage it stopped.

Depending on the job, sometimes we have to use a different method of repair to save the rug and the ends from getting more damaged. We may have to do overcasting.

The benefit of overcasting is not losing the design. At the same time, customers who do not like fringes, like overcasting.

Hand Washing Rugs at Rug Ideas, Los Angeles

If we receive or pick up a rug which is old, antique, or damaged and cannot be washed with rotary machine, we hand wash it after it is gently dusted.

Safety of the rug is more important than its appearance. Therefore, we pay more attention to the method that should be employed in cleaning these rugs.

The shampoo we use is non-toxic, WoolSafe certified and tested. It does not change the color, nor does it damage the fiber. We rinse these hand washed rugs several rounds to make sure there is no shampoo and residue left in the construction and flat dry the rugs under the sun.

We Had A Busy Summer At Rug Ideas, Los Angeles

Summer is not always a slow season for us. We had a busy one this year.

We were busy with a combination of rug sales, cleaning, repair, stain removal, appraisals, and more. Probably more than half of our clients are repeat customers or referrals from our own clients.

Another 5-Star Yelp Review For Los Angeles Rug Cleaning

5.0 star rating
9/21/2014
I Had Dr K clean a collection of rugs that came out of a house we purchased in Laguna Beach, I learned a lot about them and really respect their unique cultural history and quality. (I sort of thought the folks we bought the home from were laying on a snow job about these fancy rugs, but they indeed turned out to be authentic).
Dr K picked up and delivered my rugs since they were so large - he carefully cataloged them prior to rolling them up for transport.

I later took a very large flat woven rug to DR K - I bought it in a junk shop for a couple hundred bucks perhaps (I would not have even bought it if I hadn't met Dr K -it was pretty filthy and I had every confidence he could work his magic on it) .  - Dr K was very please with my rescue rug, he repaired it and cleaned it and told me it was valued at over $2,000! And was nearly 100 years old - a real antique now!    How Cool!

I love Dr K's attitude, its so great to meet anyone who has so much love fort their field of work, a real treat -can't wait to show him my newest find, a weaving that I thought was Native American but a specialist on North and South American native textiles just told me its either European or Arabic - right up Dr K's Alley - he surely will know all about it.

Tapestry Repair at Los Angeles Rug Cleaning

We love to repair tapestries. Many of them are beautiful objects of art on walls, and make good conversational pieces in our clients homes.

We receive tapestries for cleaning and repair very often. In many case, they are made of silk and wool. Usually the silk part get damaged more than the wool parts. Here I am posting pictures of an 8' x 10' tapestry we received for cleaning and repair. The silk parts were rotten.

Many areas of this beautiful and big tapestry were damaged. It took us three weeks to repair and restore this tapestry. Our client lived in Santa Barbara, almost 100 miles north of Los Angeles. She had dropped it off but after the tapestry was ready she wanted us to ship it back to her which we did.

Down-Sizing and Up-Sizing Rug Repair at Rug Ideas Los Angeles

Rug repair is one of the services that we provide our clients with. Sometimes our customers move to a smaller home or office and they want us to down-size their rugs and make them smaller.  In some cases, they want us to attach to or more rugs together and make them bigger.

A client brought in two tufted rugs that he had bought in separate occasions from a rug importer online. Each one measured 8' x 10'. The designs and the background color of the rugs were a little different from one another and he wanted us to attach them together so he can have one single piece of 10' x 16'

We assigned one of our repair technicians to take care of this job. He sewed both tufted rugs together from the face after we tried to match the designs as much as we could.

For extra support and strength, we sewed the rugs together from the back as well and they looked very good.

Blogging and Branding

Blogs are powerful, easy to make and easy to manages. They are way more powerful than static websites.
People love to hear stories and in our blogs, we can tell stories.

I made my blogs, RugMaster in late 2007 and have had almost a total page views of more than 334,000 so far and I am excited about this.

If you search under rug blogs on the Internet, you will find more than 4,500,000 entries and my blog is number four on that list.

By having a blog, you can set yourself apart from your competitors and position yourself as an authority in your field.

Rug Summit 8 in Chicago

Rug Summit 8 began this afternoon in Chicago. More than 120 rug care and maintenance experts gathered from all over the country to have three days of rug talks. The event started with a visit to 90-year old K. A. Pridjian & Co. rug cleaning plant.
Wash demonstration
A very old but pretty functional centrifuge machine to extract and remove the excess water from the rugs after they are washed on the floor.
Wash demonstration of a couple of Karastan carpets.
Scraps of rugs for repair and patching.

Robert Mann of Denver, Colorado is testing a shearing machine. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Mann and had the pleasure of appraising 64 rugs with him for an insurance claim last week in Chip Cunningham's rug cleaning facility in Maryland.

Joe Gabel, and David Sweeney showed off their music and entertainment skills at the end of the session. This was fun and everyone loved it. There was plenty of food and drinks. Thanks to Pridjians for hosting us.

When You Have a Dirty Wool Flokati Rug, Let Us Take Care of the Cleaning For You

Flokati rugs were first made in Greece. Some experts believe that Flokati rugs with natural high lamb's wool pile have a 5000-year history. Many of our clients love Flokati rugs because of the softness and the cushioning of these rugs.

Flokati rugs need a little more care and maintenance specially if you have pets. They get dirty very easily and their cleaning is not something you can take care of at home.
We picked up this dirty Flokati rug from a client who had a dog with fresh accident on it.
We took care of the wet washing and deep cleaning of it and it looked great, and fresh again.
