Animal Skin, Animal Hide Cleaning and Repair in Los Angeles

Besides rug and kilim/flat weave cleaning, we clean a variety of animal skins cleaning. During the past few weeks, we have done cleaning, and repair of cowhides, sheepskins, zebrahides, boarhides, cheetah hide blankets, tiger rugs, etc.

On some of these hides and skins, we have installed fabric/canvas  baking to keep them flat on the floors. The owner of two of these zebrahides wanted to have brown canvas straps installed on the edges of the hides that we did.

So if you have any kind of animal skin/hide which is dirty, stained or damaged, bring it to us and let us wow you with our custom cleaning and custom repair. It only takes us a week to bring it back to life again.

Bokhara Cleaning/Repair - The Works

This week a lot of TLC went into a Handknotted Bokhara Design Rug, which a customer brought in after having a great experience with us cleaning & repairing a Sarouk that had been in her family. The Afghan Bokhara design rug had seen better days; it had not been cleaned in over 6 years and the ends and sides were started to fall apart. Take a look below:
As you can see the rug was in dire need of attention, and Rug Ideas was the absolute best place the customer could have taken it. First we did a deep cleaning of the rug to take of of all the dust, dirt & stains that had accumulated over the last 6 years. Once it was done with cleaning it was sanitized and deodorized, which was a great time to now proceed with the repairs. All 4 sides were to be repaired by the hands of one  of our master weavers. All the work was done by hand and we took great care to make sure the yarn colors used matched the rug perfectly so we could get a great finished repair. Take a look at how the cleaning/repair came out below:
The deep cleaning brought back the red vibrancy it once had and just leaps out now. The ends were secured so that no more damage was done to the design of the rug and the selvages(sides) were done perfectly in a great complementary red. This Bokhara now has a new lease on life and our customer is ecstatic with the results and cannot wait to put it back down in her home. If you have a rug that needs the complete Rug Ideas cleaning/repair package contact us anytime so we can step you through your options to bring back the life of your rug!

Indian Rug Cleaning/Reweave

Stains, stains & stains... this is what a customer's Indian rug has received over the past 2 years. From liquid spills to gerbil poop to foot traffic, the owner's rug was a dirty sight. It also has a large tear in one corner that was done by the company who previously washed their rug. Take a look below:
This rug went through our deep cleaning process and came out fantastic! No steam cleaning here; only professional dusting, wet washing & natural drying. Take a look below:
The deep cleaning did wonders for this rug. The owner was really happy with the results and has since decided to have one of our master weavers reweave the torn out area. Keep posted for an upcoming blog on how that repair came out.

Shag Rug Cleaning Los Angeles

Lately we have been receiving new types of shag rugs. These are beautiful and trendy but difficult to maintain and clean. They cannot be cleaned easily with vacuum cleaners and they may have issues when they are professionally cleaned. Here, I am posting photos of a new one we received for cleaning few days ago. This particular shag rug had cotton foundation and cotton pile. We found pencils and quarter coins inside the very long pile.

In Rug Cleaning , Lower Price Does Not Mean A Great Deal!

Some customers ask their wall to wall carpet cleaners to do the cleaning of their valuable rugs at home. Carpet cleaners usually do not say "No" to these customers. Carpet cleaners do not know rugs. On the other hand they use different chemicals to get rid of the dirt and stains on carpets which are made of different petrochemicals and synthetics. Persian and Oriental rugs have silk or wool pile and it is not recommended at all to use harsh, strong or unknown chemicals to do the cleaning. This will damage the fiber without giving us the clean, shiny and soft pile we want to see and have on our rugs. It maybe cheaper, but this is not the type of saving we should be looking for!

We Clean Your Area Rug, You Pay Us After Christmas

Before I close my rug store this afternoon, a lady walked in carrying an area rug for cleaning. I walked toward her and got the rug from her. It was an extremely dirty rug. It had a kind of Zebra design. I measured the rug and said it would cost her $125 to have it cleaned and she could pick it up in a week. She said $125 would be too much for her at this time and she prefers to bring the rug back after the Christmas. I said what if we clean the rug and she picks it up after the holidays. I did not want to lose her rug and her business. She agreed. After I issued her a receipt, I said if you need your rug for the Christmas, you can pick it up next week and pay us after the holiday season is over. She was so surprised and could not believe me and I told her I did really mean it. She left our store happily and said she would comeback soon after she pick up her rug to buy a hand made rug from us.

President-Elect Obama and the Rug Market

When Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, insurance giant AIG and Lehman Brothers failed few months ago, everything looked bad and this situation was seized by the Senator Obama's Campaign. Obama won the election with the promise of change. Can president-elect Obama turn the rhetoric and the ideas that won him the presidential
election into policies and implement them correctly to bring the desired changes about?

I am not politician and do not like politics but of course try to follow it to see its effects and consequences on my life. I see from the people who walk into my rug gallery every day that people have high hopes for the right kind of changes to happen. Although the holiday season is approaching and we are almost in the middle of November, people have not really started shopping for the Christmas yet. We have not felt getting closer to holiday shopping in our rug gallery here in Los Angeles. We have not either felt people getting ready to buy rugs or have their Oriental and area rugs cleaned for the holiday traffic.

I am a rug dealer and see and measure everything from a rug point of view and angle. Just wanted to share some thoughts on the new political transition and its relationship to my profession and passion which is rug!!

A Busy Friday With Rug Cleaning & Sales in Los Angeles

On Friday September 24, 08, we were unexpectedly busy with selling different rugs to different customers. Few clients who had left their rugs for cleaning and repair showed up and picked up their Oriental carpets. Early in the morning, we also picked up an antique Persian Heriz carpet and a very old and antique Isfahan rug for cleaning and repairing the selvages.

My son Ashkan worked the whole day on our new Oriental Carpet Cleaners web site and its pictures and text. This new site is a rug cleaners and rug repair web site to serve our customers in greater Los Angeles.

Repairing and Cutting a Persian American Sarouk Sarook Carpet Rug in Los Angeles

A UCLA math teacher brought in an old American Sarouk carpet which was in a very bad condition. This type of Sarouk rugs were made in the early 1900 in Iran in the city of Arak, then called Sultanabad for the American market. That is why they are called American Sarouk. This rug was torn and was falling apart. He said that they had it for a century in their family. There was no way of preserving the rug since all the foundations on different sides were broken. Besides, he said that it was too big for them and they had no place to fit the rug in. The size of the rug was 9 x 12 foot.

We made a nice and clean rug with the size of 5 x 8 after it was professionally cleaned. His wife did not like fringes at all, so we made the bindings and gave the rug handmade selvages on all four sides. The math teacher who looked very anxious and picky at the beginning liked the job.

How Can Our Customers Sell A Rug?

I got very busy this morning for a few minutes. While I was showing some rugs to a customer who needed several rugs, a young lady walked in and said she had an Oriental rug for appraisal. I asked her to give me few minutes before I could take a look at her rug. One of my associates helped my customer and I went to the adjacent parking lot to see the rug which belonged to this young lady. She had a hummer car, but could not open the trunk. I took the rug out from the back door. It was an Indian rug with burgundy background. I asked her about the purpose of the appraisal. She said she would want to sell the rug, therefore she needed an appraisal. I said the rug is very dirty and it is better to have it cleaned if you would like to sell it. She said first let me have the appraisal and then I would decide if I should go for the cleaning or not. I said OK, I will prepare, print and will seal the appraisal form, but you would have to come back in one hour and I would have the document ready by then. She agreed and paid for the appraisal. She returned in one hour and picked up the appraisal certificate. She asked for help in selling her rug. I said we should try to find a private customer and not a dealer who may not be ready to pay a good price, but first let us do the cleaning and then we will provide you with several high resolution photos of the rugs so you can e-mail it or post it on e-bay or the Craig's list or on other Internet virtual stores. She agreed and left.

Many of our customers would like to sell a rug or several rugs but do not know where to start from. Should they put the rug inside their car's trunk and stop by the dealers on the streets of Los Angeles and hear no from the dealers who would complain about the slow market? Should they place ad in different papers and wait for telephone calls? They wonder what to do. To help them, we have created a section on our website called the "Market Place" on which our customers can post the photo and the technical information of the rug they want to sell. We prepare everything for them including the technical information and the high resolution photo. If the visitor clicks on the picture of the rug, it will open in a new window in a bigger and brighter position. The seller can also refer his/her own potential customers (friends, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, and etc.) to the link and the website to see the photo of the rug and its information. For all this, our customer pays a one-time nominal fee without paying any hidden fee or commission. We can even post his/her phone number or e-mail address so potential customers can contact him/her directly.
