Visit the Most Expensive Rug Ever Sold at Rug Ideas in Los Angeles

The most expensive rug ever sold was a roughly 6' x 9' (almost 6 m2) hand knotted Persian rug from the famous city of Kerman, in south east Iran. This 360-year old rug belonged to the American rich senator named William Clark who had bought this rug in 1920 when he took a trip to France. He later donated this 17th century Kerman carpet to Corcoran Museum in Washington D.C. This museum needed money, so they sold the rug in an auction (Sotheby's) last year, in June 2013 in New York, for the record breaking amount of $33,765,000.

Now, we have a replica of this magnificent carpet in our showroom on sale for $3,376 only.  That is 1/10,000 of the price of the original one. Come in and see this beautiful work of art, and if you like and while we have it, own it.

Call us to set an appointment to stop by to see, touch, and feel this beauty.

Shag Is Back Again. Shag Rugs, Shag Carpets at Rug Ideas, Los Angeles

Shag rugs with high pile became popular in the 80's. They are soft and give you a mattress type of cushioning under your bare feet. You can sit or sleep on them comfortably. But they are a little bit difficult to maintain and care for and that is because of their construction and high pile. They may not be a good choice for high traffic areas. Or if you have several pets or kids, you may reconsider buying a white shag rug. A shag rug is not a good choice for a kid's room.

We are expert in shag rug cleaning and repair. We dust them first to make sure we remove the dust and dry soil from the high and long pile. We then wet wash them with a tested, certified  WoolSafe shampoo and rinse them multiple times. After we extract the water, we flat dry them like the traditional way. The whole process takes 5-7 day.

If you have a dirty shag rug, give us a call to schedule the cleaning pick up.

Tapestry Repair, French Tapestry Restoration at Rug Ideas Los Angeles

Once in a while, we receive a tapestry for cleaning and repair. In many cases, these tapestries are damaged due to improper care and maintenance. They are hung for a long time without cleaning and sometimes they are not hung properly. Having a backing made of canvas or fabrics will help distribute the weight and this prevents to put pressure on the construction which in many cases is made of wool and silk.

Identifying the damages and then hand dusting and cleaning is very important before we start the repair and restoration.

Then we prepare the wool and silk to do the repair. In many cases where there are holes, we need to make foundation.

This is a very delicate art work and it needs craftsmanship, expertise and patience.

Persian Heriz Rug Cleaning and Repair at Rug Ideas in Los Angeles

We picked up a room size Persian Heriz rug from a client's house in Santa Monica for cleaning. We offered repair of four sides as the sides were damaged and were falling apart. She agreed. We first inspected the rug and as usual took several before picture and then dusted it to make sure dust and dry sail is out of the low pile and the construction.
Then we gave the rug a full bath and washed it multiple times. We sanitized and deodorized the rug.

After the rug was completely dry, one of our repair technicians worked on the repair. We secured the ends and fringes to make sure the knots do not come off. We replaced the selvages and the bindings on the sides by hand. We do not use any kind of sewing/surging machines to repair rugs and everything is done by hand.

It took us one week to professionally clean the rug. The repair of all four sides took another week. This rug felt and looked great again.

Best Rug Cleaners, Best Rug Cleaning in Los Angeles

Do we clean rugs? Yes, but we do more than cleaning when we get a rug cleaning job. We care for the rugs and we curate them. What do I mean by that?

After we receive a rug for cleaning, we inspect the rug for any damages and if we spot damages such as holes or weak parts, we secure those areas to make sure they do not get bigger when we wash them.
A client dropped off this Moroccan rug for cleaning. Before we start the process of dusting which is our first step, we spotted 11 holes and marked them with yellow tapes. We then secured them and started the wash process.

We also take time to dust the rugs thoroughly to make sure we do not give them bath in their own mud.
After few rounds of dusting comes the deep washing, rinsing, water extracting, and drying.

Best Tapestry Repair at Rug Ideas in Los Angeles

We received an antique late 19th century tapestry from a client few weeks ago. It was full of damages and holes. It is made of cotton, wool, and silk. The silk parts in many areas are rotten and when we touch them, become powder and dust. First we identified all the damaged areas by yellow tapes and then we assigned one of our master weavers to work on this beautiful object of French art.

The damaged areas had to be attached to a wood frame to stretch we could make foundation to start the re-weaving process.
We then began the repair and used different types of silk/wool yarn to re-weave the holes.

This is a lengthy process and it needs a lot of attention, mastery, and patience. We need few more days to finish the job and do the final inspection. In a separate post, I will have the after repair pictures.

Persian Kashan Rug, Carpet Cleaning and Repair at Rug Ideas in Los Angeles

We received a 5' x 7' Persian Kashan rug from a client for cleaning and repair. Part of the fringes at the top were missing and the rug looked very dirty. Kashan is a very famous and old city in north central Iran in the province of Isfahan. Kashan has a long history and tradition of making high quality rugs which goes back to hundreds of years ago.

We hand washed the rug after it was dusted to make sure dust and dry soil was out. Dusting is a very important step that should be taken first in cleaning rugs. Otherwise we give the rug a bath in its own mud.  After our deep hand wash, we made sure that the rug was completely dry. We then assigned one of our technicians to do the re-fringing. Fringes had to be implanted into the rug foundation one by one. It took us a day and a half to finish the repair job.
The result was very good and looked like the damage never happened to the rug. Our client was very happy with the quality of the re-fringing job and our customer service.

Karastan Rug, Karastan Carpet Cleaning and Repair at Rug Ideas, Los Angeles

A client brought in a damaged rotten Karastan rug to see if we could save it. This rug was water damaged and then left in a basement for a year and it was full of mildew. We said we could and the only option was downsizing it. He agreed and I told him we needed 2-3 weeks to get the job done.
Karastan rugs are area machine made rugs made here in the U.S. The company was established in 1926 and they presented their first series of rugs in 1928. They make very high quality machine made rugs with fine wool pile. I had a pleasure of the visiting one of their mills in Eden, North Carolina in May, 2013.

Since we know how these rugs are made, we know what to do when they are damaged. We assigned one of our repair technicians to remove all the damaged and rotten parts and to take care of down sizing and securing the sides and ends. We hand washed the new rug, sanitized, and deodorized it.

Our client was very happy with the down sized rug and picked it up with a big smile on his face.
