Repair and Restoration of Karastan Rugs

Karastan rugs/carpets are made here in the United States with high quality Lamb's wool pile. The company was established in 1926 and introduced its first carpets in 1928.

We receive many Karastan rugs for cleaning and repair, and our customers who have them love them and in many cases these rugs have been in their families for a long time.

We picked up a big 10' x 18' Karastan rug from a client in Rancho Palos Verdes  in south of Los Angeles. This rug was very dusty, and dirty with severe moth damages. The fringes were gone due to decades of foot traffic, and improper vacuuming.

We hand dusted, and washed this rug and rewove all the moth damaged areas. We added fringes to the ends.

Our client was very happy with the results and fell in love with this rug again. She promised to take good care of this beautiful rug!

Bad Customers Who Want to Abuse Small Businesses

Small businesses have to pay increasing rents, city, state, federal taxes, workers comp, water.power, telephone, Internet, insurance bills, employees checks and so many other types of expenses. Our list of expenses has passed 40 different categories. They also provide employment, and the community with some services at their own risks. The owners and their employees have to work hard 6-7 days a week.

It is unfair if a client is too demanding, unreasonable and after he/she receives the service, threatens to get her money back or leaves a negative online review. This is not fair and is abuse of clients' rights.

A client brought in a used, worn out dirty cowhide patchwork for over-dyeing. We told her that we had to clean it first, and then over-dye it. She selected a color from our color chart. Due to the inconsistency of the texture, and wear/tear, we told her the outcome would not be predictable, but we would over dye it with the color she wanted. She agreed and signed our contract. The cowhide patchwork was faded green, and she wanted rust brown. After we called her and let her know that the cowhide was ready, she came in and saw the cowhide and said she wanted it to be darker. My son said this is dark brown and matches the color she had selected. She asked us to go darker. My son wrote a couple of lines mentioning that the result would be unknown and she would accept the risk. She agreed and signed the waiver. We did the over dyeing again with a way darker dye. She came in yesterday and did not like it and said this was not brown enough and wanted her money back. I respectfully told her our services was delivered and she was told that due to the worn texture of the cowhide and its wear and tear, there would be inconsistency. She did not agree and picked up the cowhide to leave. I asked her to sign our work order meaning that she picked up the cowhide, but she refused and left with the cowhide. It is too bad when a customer has unreasonable expectations and when she does not receive the service her way, threatens the business to leave a negative review.

Deep Cleaning Starts with Thorough Dusting at Rug Ideas

Our 10-step deep cleaning and hand washing starts from dusting. If a rug is not dusted properly, a mud bath would be created, and we do not want to give the rug a bath in its own mud.

In some cases our clients do not know how dusty their rugs are until we do a little test in front of them to witness the dust shooting out of their rug.

Individual wet washing, shampooing, and using different types of enzymes on each rug guarantees a good result.

We have a labeling system so if a rug is contaminated with pet accidents and urine it is labeled as such, then we use a different type of enzyme to break down the urine molecules in the wash process. We identify those areas and extract the cloudy water until the water becomes crystal clear to make sure there is no urine/contamination left in the rug.

Fringe detailing is another part of our tedious wash process to make sure fringes are super clean.

Taking before and after cleaning pictures of each rug is another step we take to make sure everything is done properly.

We spend a lot of time and energy on each rug from the beginning to the end of the wash process. This would result in having happy customers.
