Los Angeles Rug Cleaning on a Freeway Sign

While I was driving on the 10 freeway, I was amazed when I saw that our website was on a freeway sign. I know that we are a family business with 60 years of experience and we have cleaned, repaired, and appraised hundreds of rugs with 100% customer satisfaction. But, I was not sure that our clients liked us so much to talk the city into putting up Los Angeles Rug Cleaning on a freeway sign. If you drive on the 10 freeway and see LosAngelesRugCleaning.com, know that you are looking at the best rated carpet cleaning, repair, and appraisal family business in the nation. We have had customers who shipped us their rugs for cleaning, water damage restoration, carpet stain removal, and other things all the way from Hawaii (3000 miles away) and Guam (6000 miles away). I'm not sure if our company name is up on their freeway signs as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were.

More on Carpet Concert in Los Angeles

In my previous post I wrote about the Carpet Concert which was held here in Los Angeles by Rowan Storm and her friends.
With more than 25 years of experience with cultures and drumming of the Middle East and Mediterranean, Rowan Storm is recognized internationally as a performer and educator. Rowan brings freshness to tradition with her teaching method and frame drum designs, including the Thinline Frame Drums by Remo and her signature Rowan Storm Dayereh by Cooperman, now also produced by Remo.

With a parallel study of brain function and wellness, Rowan is pioneering the symmetrical frame drum position. The shallow depth of Rowan's Frame Drum designs enables both hands to play all the strokes, while holding the drum equally with both hands. As the non-dominant hand is called into action, the rational is harmonized with the intuitive, and startling new sources of creativity are unleashed.

Throughout the US, Europe and the Middle East, Rowan has studied and performed with some of the greatest masters of Middle Eastern music. Maintaining a full international concert and workshop schedule, Rowan plays and teaches a wide vocabulary of drumming styles, and sings in several languages. Based on walking, Rowan's teaching method connects us deeply with our innate rhythmical nature while promoting balance between both brain hemispheres. Source: www.RowanStorm.com

Carpet Concert Los Angeles

Wow!! What a night! Carpet Concert in Levantine  Cultural Center in Los Angeles with Rowan Storm and friends with Persian, Arabic, Armenian, Turkish, Greek and more music and folk dances. For the past few carpet concerts in Los Angeles, I have had the pleasure of providing hand knotted Persian carpets for Rowan Storm. She is a renown musician who plays and teaches frame drum (dayereh and daf). She also sings. It was a sold out event and everybody had to take off his/her shoes to sit on the carpets to listen to the music and watch the dances. It started at 7:30 and ended at around 10:00 pm on Tuesday 05/24/2011. We delivered the carpets at 5:00 pm and returned them around 11:00 pm to our rug gallery.

It was an evening of fun, meditation, and indulgence.

A Beautiful Tapestry in Los Angeles Museum of Art LACMA

Once in a while I visit Los Angeles County Museum of Art LACMA. It is 3-4 miles away from my work and my home so I have no excuse not to visit it regularly. I am a member so I don't have to pay $15 per visit. Isn't this nice?!

In my lats visit, a beautiful huge tapestry caught my eyes. The size was 9' 9" x 14' 10 (117 x 178 inches, 297 x 452 cm). It was on display in the Hammer Building, third floor, room 310. This was made in Belgium in 1740 to 1742 with silk and wool. This magnificent tapestry was given to LACMA as a gift by Paul Getty. It is the story of combat between Menelaus and Paris. It was OK to take pictures without flash. I took few pictures that I post here.

Was Picasso Really An Artist?

Last Sunday, I went to the preview of the Bonhams rug and carpet auctions in Los Angeles. After that I went to Los Angeles County Museum of Art LACMA. I visited some of Picasso's paintings there. Pablo Picasso was originally from Spain born in 1888 died in 1973. He lived most of his life in France. He was a famous painter and sculpture. In his early life, his style of painting was realistic but later on he became one of the most active pioneers of cubism. Was he really an artist? Well I guess it depends on our definition of art and artist.

I post few pictures of his paintings here. These are among many of Picasso's paintings on display in LACMA.

Bonhams Oriental Carpets Oriental Rugs Auction

Last Sunday, the day before yesterday I went to the preview of the Bonhams Oriental carpet auction on Sunset Blvd. here in Los Angeles. There were more than 250 pieces of Oriental carpets, kilims, and tapestries on display. Today was the auction from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. It was fun and on some items, the competition was tough. There were carpet dealers, collectors, designers, and I guess some private customers in the room. Some had participated online and by phone.

I had selected few items to bid on but for some reasons the prices got out of hand or at least out of my budget. I only bought a nice Sarouk Farahan (Feraghan) rug which I love. Sarouk Farahan rugs were made pre-1900 in north west Iran as they are one generation before the existence of American Sarouk rugs which were made for the American market after the turn of the last century.

After the auction was over, I picked up the rug I had won and paid for it by credit card. The staff and employees were very friendly and professional. Everything was well organized and well done. I enjoyed the auction very much.

Tapestry Repair Tapestry Restoration Tapestry Cleaning

We repaired a very old, delicate and damaged tapestry. It took us two months to restore it. When we got this antique tapestry it was full of dust, dirt, and mildew. We hand cleaned it and then started the restoration process. We also prepared the backing and installed it for more protection. Tapestry cleaning and repair needs more expertise and patience than cleaning and restoring rugs because tapestries are more delicate and fragile. I am posting a short video clip here which shows before, the process, and after cleaning and repair.

Our customer came in to check the tapestry out yesterday. She inspected the restoration and the whole job. She was extremely happy with the outcome. We have wrapped up the tapestry in special type of thick cushioning wrapping paper to deliver it. Since this 18th century tapestry is very fragile, we have rolled it up around a heavy duty long tube.
