Rug Repair - Dog Chewing

Last week a customer brought in a couple of rugs, one for which needed a repair done. This particular rug is a small one that the owner's dog had done some chewing on. Take a look below:
The dog in question is a puppy, and they have been known to gnaw on rugs while they are teething. We put our customer at ease when we told her we had a fix that would keep the rug symmetrical. A decision was made to shorten the rug a few inches off the bitten end and put new binding across where we did the cutting. She chose the yarn color from our extensive palate and then we put the rug into the hands of one of our weavers. Take a look at the results below:
The rug now look fantastic and you can not tell it was chewed on by a dog at all. Our customer was extremely happy with the results and we hope her dog doesn't have the same inclinations any time soon. If you have a rug that has been torn or unraveled, by a dog or by another other means, bring it in to Rug Ideas so we can step you through your options to fixing it... the Rug Ideas way!

Bokhara Repair

At Rug Ideas, we see new rugs every day that need cleaning, repair or both. But what may surprise people is that we often have other rug stores/dealers as clients who often need repair on their rugs. And when they need a repair they contact us as we have over a half century of expertise in dealing with expert repairs of all types of rugs. Last week one of our rug dealer clients came in with a Bokhara rug that needed some attention. Taker a look below:

As you can see the ends were unraveling which is not only an eyesore but also meant that if it continued it could possibly unravel into the design of the rug. Luckily the owner decided to take action before that happened. We are well known in the community for outstanding repair work and we have a great team of master weavers to repair the myriad of problems that a rug may encounter. He knew the rug would be in good hands with us, and we proceeded with the repairs right away. All the work was done by hand, and the securing of the ends came out great. Take a look below at the results:

This rug is now in great condition; look wise as well as structurally sound. If you have a rug that is doing some unraveling as well, bring it in to Rug Ideas where we can stop the damage and get it back to it's former beauty!

Cleaning and Repair - Handknotted Rug

We had a return customer bring 4 handknotted pieces in recently to be deep cleaned; one of those pieces needed some extra attention. The ends of the rug in question had major unraveling happening and the design was already being lost. This advanced stage of unraveling needed to be stopped right away so that the rest of the rug could avoid such damage. Take a look at the before pics below:
We first secured the damaged areas so any further damage could be avoided while it was being deep cleaned. After the rug was finished going through our deep cleaning process, we started work on getting the ends into shape. One of our weavers did all the work by hand and the pics speak for themselves. Take a look below:
This handknotted rug looks great because of the deep cleaning and also is now strong and secure with the work done to repair the ends. Our customer was once again thoroughly excited with the results and was happy that the damage that had progressively getting worse over the last couple years, had stopped. If you have a rug that needs some extra attention bring it in to Rug Ideas so we can help you save and preserve your works of art!

Handknotted Rug - Cleaning and Repair

We went to a client's house recently who had 11 rugs that had been stored in their garage but had not been inspected in about 5 years. To their surprise almost all of the stored rugs had some form of moth infestation. After being initially horrified by the infestation, they wanted to proceed with cleaning and restoration to help save what rugs we could. One was a beautiful red handknotted rug that had always been in their household but now looked in dire need of attention. Moth casing could be seen all over the rug and the ends were unraveling a lot, eating into the design of the rug. Take a look below:
The first thing we did to start the process was give it a deep cleaning. This would ensure that all the moth larvae would be eliminated and would also make sure the rug was sanitized and deodorized. After the cleaning and drying was complete we had one of our master weavers give attention to the ends of the rug so as to stop the unraveling. It was all done by hand and in no time we had the rug's ends secured. This will help greatly in making sure the rug didn't lose its structure and is much more aesthetically pleasing as well. Take a look at the results below:
This handknotted rug now looks great, is totally clean, rid of moth and larvae, and has it's structure saved by having the securing of the ends done. We recommend that everyone who has their rugs in storage or in a garage as it is now moth season. Make sure no moth or moth casings are there, and if there is, bring it to Rug Ideas right away so we can help you with any cleaning and/or repairs it may need. We've seen some unfortunate incidents where the customers' rugs were beyond saving and could not be fixed. So a little preventive measure like scheduled inspections could save those pieces of art that mean so much to you!

Shag Rug - Cleaning and Repair Work

A new customer brought in his shag rug that he keeps in his home recording studio as it needed some Rug Ideas attention. Firstly, the shag was very dirty and had not been cleaned in 7 years. It had accumulated lots of stains and was worse for wear. The bottom segment of the rug had become torn and it really took away from the aesthetic. Take a look below:
The shag first went through our deep cleaning process, which involves dusting, complete wet washing and natural drying in the sun. This did wonders on all those stains! We then had one of our weavers cut above the tear in the shag and bind the whole side by hand. Take a look at the fantastic results below:
This shag looks brand new! Our customer was so ecstatic he is bringing in 2 Persian rugs of his next week for a cleaning. If you need the same Rug Ideas touch, call us or come into our showroom... we're glad to help!

Kerman Rug - Layers of Dirt vs. Deep Cleaning

Last week a customer brought in a 6 x 9 Kerman Rug that had not been cleaned in about 7 years. It is a beautiful rug but the layers of dirt prevented anyone from truly seeing how beautiful it is. Our customer opted for our deep cleaning to bring back the life and vibrancy to her rug. Take a look at the before pictures below:
We put this Kerman through our deep cleaning process, which is the highest quality care/wash you could give to a handknotted rug. We were quite pleased with the results; check the after pics below:
This Kerman rug now looks absolutely fantastic thanks to our Rug Ideas deep cleaning. All the layers of dirt are gone and the beauty of the rug shines through. The owner had no idea that her rug would come out looking brand new and has decided to bring in 2 other rugs she has at her house. If you have a rug that hasn't been cleaned in a while and needs some TLC, bring it in to Rug Ideas for that extra special treatment!
