Asmalyk Turkmen

The Yomut tribes of western Turkmenistan usually make Asmalyks in pairs. The Asmalyks are mostly ceremonial rugs used as wedding celebrations pieces to decorate the sides of the camel in which the bride rides. Asmalyk means hanging and it is a five-sided Turkomen horse or camel trapping. The sample you see here is one of our new acquisitions. It is from early 1900 and is in perfect condition.
